Between June 23rd and 27th, 2026, our predoctoral researcher Álvaro Pita participated in the XI Congress of the Iberian Society of Ichthyology (SIBIC), held at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in Vila Real (Portugal), where he presented the mitochondrial studies developed within the CONSIBERTROMICS project.
From May 4-6, 2026, we participated in the VIII Genomics in Aquaculture (GIA 2026) held at Split (Croatia), where we presented our population genomics and transcriptomics results from the CONSIBERTROMICS project. The abstract of our presentation is included below:
Between January 21st and 23rd, 2026, our predoctoral researcher Álvaro Pita participated in the X Congress of the Spanish Society for Evolutionary Biology (SESBE), held at the Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia (Valencia), where he presented the population genomics studies developed within the CONSIBERTROMICS project.
The Mediterranean trout is an emblematic fish of Mediterranean regions that is seriously threatened due to hybridization with Atlantic trout introduced for fishing, the advance of climate change, and the degradation of river ecosystems.
During September and October, the sampling of adult specimens (1+, 20 months old) was carried out for the Mediterranean lineages (ME and AD) and the hatchery Central European group at the Bagà Ichthyological Center, managed by the Government of Catalonia, and for the native Atlantic lineage (AT) at the O Veral Ichthyological Center, managed by the Regional Government of Galicia. Unfortunately, no samples were obtained from the Duero lineage (DU) due to technical issues at the Goo Ichthyological Center, also managed by the Regional Government of Galicia, where this lineage is kept in captivity.
Research stay from 03/02/2025 to 31/05/2025
From January 15-17, 2025, we participated in the XXIV Seminar on Population Genetics and Evolution held at the Parador de Mazagón (Huelva), where we presented the first results of the CONSIBERTROMICS project.
During the months of September and October, the sampling campaign of juvenile specimens (8 months old) from the Mediterranean lineages (ME and AD) and the Central European origin group was carried out at the Bagà hatchery, belonging to the Generalitat of Catalonia, and from the native Atlantic (AT) and Duero (DU) lineages at the O Veral and Goo hatcheries of the Xunta of Galicia.
The journal Etologuía, edited and published by the Spanish Society of Ethology and Evolutionary Ecology (SEEEE), has published in its issue number 30 a summary of the CONSIBERTROMICS project, which can be found in the attached PDF (in Spanish).
Last June the Tenth Congress of the Iberian Society of Ichthyology (SIBIC 2024) was held under the slogan ‘FishesForFuture’. We presented the results of the TRADAPTOMICS project on the genomic diversity of brown trout populations in the upper reaches of the River Ter, in the Eastern Pyrenees.
